Welcome to the world of the Shadowhunters. We are based off of the amazing series, The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare.I recommend you read it because it is simply amazing. If you have not read it though, here is a quick run down of what each character is and is capable of. If you've got time on your hands and want to go a little deeper in detail then I suggest this site HERE .
Nephilim or Shadowhunters:
&& Secret race of humans with angel blood who are born to rid the world of demons and trouble causing downworlders. Mainly they protect humans.
&& From the moment they are born they are marked by a Stele with dark designs on their skins called Runes or Marks which are basically magical spells which do a variety of things.
&& Many Runes are temporary, and fade with time. These runes will always leave behind a faint silver scar symbolic of the rune that was once placed there.
&& Even when not marked they possess superhuman abilities such as increased strength, stealth, and endurance.
&& They follow a strict set of rules that are in the Shadowhunter's Codex.
&& The clave is their governing body which is headed by the Council.
&& It's possible for Nephilim to refuse to become a shadowhunter, but there are rules to follow that such as they must never speak to any other shadowhunter again, or call on the clave.
&& Although marriage of a Shadowhunter to a mundane is forbidden, they can marry if the mundane is turned into a Shadowhunter through a process called Ascension.
&& Parabatai is the name given when two shadowhunters decide to fight together for the rest of their lives as something stronger than a brotherhood. This is very rare and permanent.
&& Most used weapon is the seraph blade. They are made of adamas crafted bythe Iron Sisters. They call upon the power of an Angel's name to accessthe blade's power.
&& They are highly skilled warriors with lots of angelic weapons to assist them.
Vampires:
&& Vampires, also known as the Night Children, are a species of Downworlders. Along with werewolves, vampires are humans infected with a demon disease.
&& Blood is the main component of a vampire's diet; all vampires need to drink some kind of blood for their survival. Whether it is the blood of humans or animals is up to the vampire.
&& Mundane food, on the other hand, can make a vampire sick since they cannot digest it, although some have learned to eat food in some unexplained way.
&& Human subjugates, sometimes also referred to as darklings, are mundanes kept around by vampires to feed on when they’re short on blood
&& Vampires must belong to a clan.
&& Human subjugates do not eat food. They live on a mixture of vampire and animal blood, keeping them in a state of suspended animation. They’re not immortal, but they age very slowly.
&& Subjugates worship their masters, and love serving them. All they want is to be near them.
&& their abilites tend to be the same as humans but multiplied. Allegedly, their strengths increase and grow stronger as they grow older.
&& Vampires can also shapeshift into bats, rats and dust.
&& The Night Children have the power to mesmerize and essentially control their prey
&& The vampires of the Downworld aren't vulnerable to garlic and can see themselves in the mirror. They are still, however, vulnerable to daylight, holy symbols, and fire.
&& For a human to be turned into a vampire, one must drink Vampire blood, be bitten by other vampires, die, buried, and then be reborn and broughtback from the dead, then fed blood.
Faeries
&& Known as the Fair Folk or fey, are an extremely cunning race of Downworlders. They have angel blood mixed with demon blood.
&& Most faeries avoid midday sunlight, for the devil has no power except in the dark.
&& They reside in the Faerie Realm, within the Seelie or Unseelie court. They are ruled over by a queen.
&& The Fair Folk are also unable to lie. They might, however, tell what they believe is true, even if it is not.
&& They may also expertly weave lies into sentences by using methods such as not telling the whole truth or letting others assume things.
&& If you drink or eat any of their food then you cannot leave Seelie Court unless the Queen lets you leave.
Warlocks
&& Also known as Lilith's Children, are the immortal offsprings of mundanes and demons. They are the only Downworlders who can cast magic because they have demon blood.
&& Many, if not all, warlocks have unnatural body parts, called a demon's mark, such as bat wings, goat feet, lizard tails, scaled hands or cat eyes
&& Warlocks are unable to have children.
&& Warlocks are often conceived by trickery. It is common for their demon parent to disguise themeselves in the form of a male loved one, and seduce the female mundane.
Werewolves
&& Also known as Lycanthropes or the Children of the Moon, and are part of the Downworlder population due to being infected by a demon disease.
&& There are two kinds of werewolves:the kind that are born werewolves, with werewolf parents, andthe kind that get infected with lycanthropy through a bite
&& When shapeshifted, werewolves look like normal wolves. However, while in human form they look fairly normal excluding a sometimes messy appearance.
&& In human form, werewolves have enhanced speed and strength and the ability to transform into their wolf form at will.
&& Werewolves, like vampires, must belong with a group; a pack, in their case. The Praetor Lupus makes sure that new Downworlders find their place.
&& Each pack is lead by a leader, and any werewolf that kills that leader gains control of the pack.
&& As werewolves, they follow the long held tradition of being mortal enemies of vampires.
&& Werewolves have the ability to change into wolves. New werewolves changeevery time there is a full moon, whereas older werewolves master it andcan change whenever they want.
&& They also have enhanced strength.
&&Following old trends, these werewolves can be killed by silver, and have a natural aversion to it.
Humans
&& Regular humans, also called mundanes or mundies, are ignorant to the Nephilim and demons in the "Shadow World".
&& Mundanes can be turned into Vampires or Werewolves when bit, and can also infected with the Demon disease. Also, when runes are applied on mundanes, they become Forsaken.
&& When Nephilim, demons or warlocks put up glamours, it is so that mundanes cannot see them.
&& When Shadowhunters have children with mundanes, the children will also be Shadowhunters, since their angelic blood is dominant. Mundanes and demons together will create warlock children.
